STUDENT NURSES ASSOCIATION (SNA)

SNA is a nation-wide organization of nursing students. SNA works to provide opportunity for personal, intellectual, professional and social growth of its members. Much of this is incorporated into health information and services that are provided to the campus and community. The diversity of activities is derived from the professional, social, cultural and recreational spheres to strengthen curricular and extra curricular activities of the student nurses.

Objectives

  • To promote awareness and involvement in nursing and baccalaureate nursing education.
  • To support the education of the student nurse as a professional.
  • To provide education concerning contemporary health problems on campus and in the community.
  • To act as a liaison between nursing faculty and nursing students.
  • To play an active role within the student government.

Activities

  1. Organize meetings and conferences
  2. Conducts sports and cultural competitions at unit, zonal, state and national level.
  3. Conducts scientific paper presentations.
  4. Gives awards, prices and scholarships
  5. Members of SNA can join Trained Nurses Association of India at a concessional rate on completion of the course.

Awards and Achievements

  • Sree Gokulam Nursing College procured overall championship for Zonal SNA sports meet (RUN-2019), competing with 21 nursing colleges of South Zone Kerala.

SNEHAYANAM

SNEHAYANAM” literally means a journey spreading the message of love. Sree Gokulam Nursing College has launched “SNEHAYANAM” a charitable venture in 2014 to awaken the spirit of social commitment and charity among student nurses. It is said that benevolence is a virtue that touches the spirit and propels one to give unconditionally.
Aim is to kick start the collective conscience of Nursing students and energize them to explore the possibilities of helping the marginalised group. Concept is to contribute a sum of Rs 30/- per month by each student and be a part of this charitable mission. This venture is an earnest effort from our side to spread the message of social commitment through our students.

Objectives

 SNEHAYANAM adopted a nearby community and cover the requirements in terms of health care, safe drinking water, housing, health camps etc.
 Collection of clothes will be done periodically and will be stored for distribution as and when required
 Providing orthotics, prosthesis, spectacles, walkers, side rails to eligible patients
 Providing funds and work force to repair unhygienic situations like roof leaking,
water puddles, kuccha floors in the adopted area as per the eligibility criteria
 Provide financial assistance to promote occupational therapy among admitted patients
at SGMC hospital, as well as eligible patients in the adopted area or any other eligible person identified by the committee.
 Home visit in the adopted community area to assess the health need of marginalized
and vulnerable group, and to provide needed care accessories
 Starting preventive health club for diabetic /hypertensive and other life style diseases
 Creating adolescent recreational and occupational facilities at the village level
 Creating facility for training adolescents in meditation, yoga etc
 Women education and empowerment programme
 Conduct de -addiction motivational activities
 Conduct Movie club for fund raising

Snehayanam Committee

SNEHAYANAM committee constitutes of one student representative from each batch headed by one student secretary from senior batch. There will be three faculty members operating as coordinators. Committee will be chaired by Principal and one external executive member.

Activities done so far (till July 2019)

1. Meeting treatment expenses of poor patients admitted in SGMC&RF
2. Meeting treatment expenses of poor peoples in adopted community.
3. Distributed kettles, airbed and water bed to inmates of geriatric ward, SGMC
4. Picnic along with geriatric inmates to Botanical garden, Palode on May 2019
5. Arranged Vishu kani, Vishu kaineetam and lunch to all inmates of geriatric ward on
the occasion of Vishu in April 2019
6. Empowering inmates and caregivers of geriatric ward by starting an occupational
therapy unit in ward (lotion, hand wash, dish wash etc.) as a source of income generation
7. Conducted various medical camps in adopted community areas in 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018 along with community health nursing department.
8. Conducted medical camp and cancer screening for migrant workers at Pothencode in
28.04.2019
9. Gifted kitchen utensils to a underprivileged family to their dream home constructed
with the help of Rotary club
10. Provided lunch to inmates of old age home, Snehatheeram in June 2019
11. Collected books and stationaries from students and faculties of SGNC and handed over to needy students through Club FM- 94.3
12. Helping SGNC students in academics by providing financial support
13. Helped in construction of house of a student and making it in a livable condition. Snehayanam team visited the house of the particular student and condition seems pathetic, as she was staying in a shed with no security. Hence it is decide to construct
a house for that student.
14. Distributed goat to adopted community (Udayampara Colony). 3 goats (female) were handed over to the under privileged family, selected by lucky draw.
