DEPARTMENT OF OBSTETRICAL AND GYNAECOLOGICAL NURSING

OVERVIEW

Obstetrical & Gynecological nursing department tries to impart specialized knowledge and skill to the UG & PG students . The department caters to the needs of BSc, PBBSc and MSc Nursing students. The department aims at preparing the student nurses to become competent in managing patients at bed side incorporating the changes in practice standards. The faculty is encouraged to use traditional and innovative teaching learning methods. . The department conducts research studies and CNE programs  to update the knowledge and skill of Nurse Educators, Nurse Administrators, Staff Nurses, UG students & Post graduate nursing students.

DEPARTMENTAL  FACILITIES:

  • Obstetrical & Gynecological nursing department has a well equipped nursing lab with simulators where students are given hands on experience for various basic & advanced procedures. The department also has a splendid library.

CLINICAL FACILITIES:

Sree Gokulam Medical College and Research Foundation  which is our parent hospital having 80 bedded maternity  and  gynecology ward. Students are given the best clinical experience in all the areas such as antenatal ward, labour ward, postnatal ward, NICU, high risk & gynec ward.

SREE GOKULAM NURSING COLLEGE, VENJARAMOODU DEPARTMENT OF OBSTETRICS AND GYNAECOLOGICAL NURSING REPORT ON INTERNATIONAL DAY OF ACTION FOR WOMEN’S HEALTH

INTRODUCTION

In the year 1987 ,May 28 th was declared as International Day of Action for Women’s Health or International Women’s Health Day .Since then each year this
day is celebrated by women’s and health groups .

The main objective of this day is to raise awareness on the issues related to women’s health and well being such as Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights
(SRHR) .It is one of the best platforms to remind everyone especially the government leaders and parliamentarians that the women’s health matters .

Theme:
This year’s theme or call to action is 'Resist and Persist', amid crises and global uncertainty. In the context of post-pandemic recovery, women activists and groups are holding governments accountable for the gendered impacts of the coronavirus pandemic that remain unaddressed to date. Some of these impacts include loss of livelihood, increased unpaid care burdens on women and girls, heightened risks to gender-based violence, and barriers to accessing essential sexual and reproductive health services, including safe abortion and post-abortion care.

We the OBG department of Sree Gokulam Nursing College and Sree Gokulam Medical College in collaboration with NSS unit of Sree Gokulam Nursing College has observed International Day of Action for Women’s Health on 09.06.2022 .On behalf of this we conducted a medical camp on “WOMEN’S HEALTH ”at Jeevakala samskarikaMandapam ,Venjaramoodu between 10 am to 3pm .

The camp was inaugurated and addressed by the chief guest Ms .G Kamalam,Vamnapuram block Panchayat President .Lt Col.Professor Meera K Pillai, Principal Sree Gokulam Nursing College presided the meeting and appreciated the team work of Department of OBG. Dr.Manjusha ,Associate Professor and Prof .Bindu .C G,Viceprincipal cum HOD of OBG Nursing department delivered felicitation speech. Medicine, Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Ophthalmology, Dermatology, Dental Departments of Sree Gokulam Hospital Actively Participated in the camp.

Medical camp was started at 10 am .Various services such as checking blood pressure, blood sugar, PAP smear, TSH test, bone mineral density testing were provided for free of cost .Nearly75 participants utilized the services .Fourth year BSc nursing 2018 batch ,Ist year Msc Nursing ,IInd year MSc nursing students
and Postbasic BSc nursing actively participated in arranging the medical programme.

CERVICAL AND BREAST CANCER SCREENING CAMP

The OBG Nursing department in collaboration with NSS Unit of Sree Gokulam Nursing College and Medical college Gynecology doctors conducted a cancer screening camp on 27thMarch  2018 at the residential camp which was proceeding in Rangapraphath (Nadakagramam)Alanthara, Venjaramoodu, from 10 am to 1 pm. The programmes included screening for cervical cancer,    breast cancer  etc  for 10 kudumbasree units in the area near .

The programme was inaugurated by Professor Bindu C.G, Viceprincipal Sree Gokulam Nursing College .The gynecologic clinic started by 10 am by two doctors .Professor Bindu C G (HOD/Vice principal),Mrs Malathi D ,Mrs Anchana C K, Mrs Smitha J S ,Mrs Preetha .V.S,Mrs Chithra .T.S. together with Mrs Aswathy S.K.(Programme  Officer NSS Unit , SGNC) guided the same.40 members  participated in the screening programme.Out of that 20  PAPsmear test was   done .All the members done breast examination.The NSS volunteers  actively participated in the session  and  an awareness session on Cancer Prevention was conducted  for kudumbasree workers. The entire programme got  a great support from the kudumbasree workers and was winded up by 2 pm.

NIPAH VIRUS AWARENESS PROGRAMME

To support government’s initiative in controlling the fast spreading threat of Nipah virus and to promote good health among the local populace, the OBG Nursing department  of SGNC organised a health awareness programme  in different areas of Sree Gokulam Medical College Hospital and in the bus stand Venjaramoodu on 26th  May 2018.

The program started by 10.30am from the bus stand .A street play was done by the IV year BSc Nursing student under the guidance of Professor BinduCG(HOD/Viceprincipal ),Mrs Malathi D, Mrs Anchana C K, Mrs Smitha J S ,Mrs Preetha .V.S,Mrs Chithra .T.S.  It said that the locals were given awareness of Nipah virus, including its symptoms, incubation period, diagnosis and prevention.Atlast the students dedicated the whole programme as a tribute to  Mrs.Liji saneesh the staff nurse who have died because of the harmful effect of the virus .

MOTHER CRAFT PROGRAMME

FIRST ANNIVERSARY MOTHER CRAFT – SEPTEMBER 2018

The OBG department of Sree Gokulam Nursing College celebrated first anniversary of mother craft on 27.9.18 between 10 am to 12 noon at OBG OPD, under the guidance of  prof. Bindu.C.G HOD of OBG department.

Initially programme was inaugurated by OBG HOD, SGMC, Dr.Nzeemafollowed by Dr. Priya, dermatology, Dr.Swathi, dental, Dr.Lekha, Paediatrician. Awareness classes was given by Dr.Swathi, dental, Dr. Priya, dermatology, Dr.Lekha, Paediatrician, Dr.Nazeema, OBG

There were about 120 antenatal mothers were participated in mother craft anniversary programme. After awareness classes followed by health check up in the areas of dental, dermatology also. Out of 120, 15 mothers were diagnosed with calculus in dental.Both M.Sc and B.Sc nursing students were assisted for the same. Finally LUCIARA sponsored a kit. It was distributed to the mothers also.

WORKSHOP ON IMMEDIATE MANAGEMENT IN OBSTETRICAL EMERGENCIES – JUNE 2019

The OBG department of SreeGokulam Nursing College and OBG department of SreeGokulamMedical College, Hospital and RF organized the workshop on 13th June 2019 between 8.00am and 4pm in conference hall, third floor, Lecture Theater of Sree Gokulam Medical College, Hospital and RF.

Introduction was given by Prof.Bindu.C.G, Vice principal and HOD of OBG Nursing Department, SreeGokulam Nursing College. Skill station was arranged for immediate management of obstetric emergencies. Station 1 – PPH by Dr,Bhavani (Asst Professor,Department of OBG,SGMC) and Ms.Smitha (Assistant Professor,OBG nursing,SGNC), Station 2 – Eclampsia by Dr.Nimmi.P (Professor,Department of OBG,SGMC) and Ms.Ancymol (Lecturer,OBG Nursing,SGNC), Session 3 – cardiac arrest in labour by Dr. Rithwik (Department of Anaesthesia, SreeGokulam Medical College, Hospital and RF )and Prof.Bindu.C.G (Vice Principal And HOD of OBG Nursing, SGNC), Session 4 – Neonatal Resuscitation by Dr.Anju.J andMs.Preetha.V.S(Asst.Professor,OBGNursing)

INTERNATIONAL DAY OF ACTION FOR WOMEN’S HEALTH – MAY  2019

OBG department of SreeGokulam Nursing College observed International Day of Action for Women’s Health on 28.5.19 between 10 am to 12 noon at OBG OPD, under the guidance of  prof. Bindu.C.G HOD of OBG  Nursing department.

Initially programme was inaugurated by Prof.Bindu C.G. Flash Mob was done by IVth year Bsc Nursing students from 10.15 am to 10.30 am. There were about 80-90 women’s in OBG OPD were participated in International Day Of Action For Women’s Healthprogramme.  Followed by Theme presentation by our Mscnursing  OBG students.
